Well i must say... last Thursday was bliss. I skipped school and went on down to NYC to see the extrodinary Mars Volta. Two and a half of the greatest hours of my life. I dont even know how to put this in a short summary cause in actuality, i could write a short novel on the amazingness of the performance. From Omar just standing in front of me, to getting in for free and standing on the VIP stage, it was all to wonderful. A 25 minute version of Drunkship of Lanterns opened up the night, wonderful improve nonesense. Then a song i had not heard in a long time, a almost exinct Concertina, which made me smile. Then possibly my favorite song Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt came on to my delight. The crazy dances and movement of Cedric and his totally killer outfit made the night progress even more wonderfully. Then a breath of fresh air came as Cygnus started and slowly incorporated itself into a sheerly brilliant version of L'Via, accompanied by guest pianist, whom im assuming was the original keyboard played on the album, the guy from the Manchuvarian Orchestra. He was quite amazing in himself, Omar and Cedric were both enthralled by his performance as much as the audience was. Then the lights faded and Roulette Dares came on, another personal favorite which was done so dramatically and perfectly i could have shed a tear. Then a wonderful version of the Widow, and finally ending with a full 30 minture version of Cassandra... with one of the most amazing ending i have ever heard or seen. The tension and power of each chord was breathraking. The lighting, the props, the wonderfully elusive latin dances, the insaine flute and saxaphone solos, a fan could as for nothing more. I had seen hours of live footage on the computer prior to this, but i tell you, it was nothing like actually experiencing it. A night i shall always cherish till next time.
